I don’t watch much of the news on TV, especially lately. It’s not very inspiring or encouraging. It’s one of the main reasons I haven’t subscribed to a newspaper in a while. The reports paint a rather depressing picture. And most of their predictions paint a bleak future.
Have you ever wondered why the news is so depressing? It’s because it’s not meant to build you up and encourage you. Journalism is pretty far from just reporting the facts. But there is an old saying, “If it bleeds, it leads.” That means that the story that is most tragic, dramatic, terrifying, or negative is usually the main story. And that goes for television, radio and newspapers.
But have you ever noticed how you feel after watching the news on TV? Are you refreshed, excited, and inspired? Like me, you probably don’t feel happy, elated, or encouraged, do you?
A lot has happened in our country in the last year. Because of what people know or think they know, many choose to criticize and blame. And of course, to confirm their feelings, just tell others what they heard on the news. “Guess what I heard on the news today?” “I told you that they were planning this, and only yesterday …” And so it goes on.
The United States is facing some very critical problems right now. Very serious problems need the right solutions. I understand. But how about you focus on other messages? How about the good news?
I truly believe that despite all the circumstances, no matter how insurmountable they seem, God’s promises are still true. And he will keep his promises to those who choose to trust and believe him Breda News Today.
Consider the following: Not only is the Bible full of God’s promises of help, deliverance, healing, and prosperity, but there are also many accounts of people who have faced very difficult and even impossible circumstances and received His help and deliverance. Have you ever wondered why all these accounts are in the Bible?
Some of these accounts are memorable to many, such as the Children of Israel crossing the Red Sea. And of course that was definitely a very difficult and seemingly impossible situation. With the Egyptian army on one side and the Red Sea on the other, the odds were certainly against them. But God had a remarkable solution.
But what about some of the lesser-known and more personal accounts? For example, a woman with her two sons whose husband has just died and leaves the family with unpaid debts? In this culture, being a widow, let alone in debt, was bad enough.
For this woman, it was a seemingly impossible or hopeless looking situation. In this culture, her two sons would be taken to work off all of the debt. But once again God has found a solution. Not only did the woman pay off all her debts, she also had enough to live with her two sons.
Today we are going through difficult economic times. But how about a famine? A famine is about 100 times worse than a troubled economy. A woman and her son wanted to finish their last meal and then just die. But God has brought a tremendous solution.
So again, my question is, why are all these accounts in the Bible? Why are there so many accounts of God’s help and deliverance in seemingly impossible situations? Are you here for our entertainment? Or do you think they were written to inspire us and encourage us to trust in God?
There have been times in my own life when it looked like the “odds are against me”. You may have experienced difficult and daunting situations where you felt like giving up. I certainly have.
But I’ve learned that an important key is to get my mental focus. I can choose to look at and accept my present reality and then project a very negative outcome as a result of where things are right now.
Or I can choose to think differently. I can check out the good news. I can look at what God has promised me and choose to focus on what he said. I can look for solutions from Him. In doing so, I expect things to get better instead of expecting things to get worse, no matter what’s around me
