Linksys Extender Can’t Connect to Router: Fixed
1. Place the Extender Near the Router
Since the extender connects to the main router, you should place them close to each other. This point is valid if you are connecting them wirelessly. The extender must be placed within the range of the router so that it can connect. In case the distance separating these two devices is more then this could be the reason why extender can’t connect to the main router. Reduce this distance and place the extender within the boundary line of the router and then try connecting the two devices.
2. Use a Different LAN Cable
There is one more way you can connect the main router to the Linksys wireless extender. You can also connect Linksys WiFi extender with ethernet cable and make a cabled connection between them. If there is an issue with the wireless connection, then go for an Ethernet or LAN connection now. Get hold of a LAN cable and insert one of its ends into the LAN port of the router and the other end into the Internet port of the Linksys extender. Ensure to make a strong connection to avoid any issues.
3. Check Power Supply
In case one or both devices are not properly powered on, then you will face issue connecting the devices. Thus, check that the Linksys WiFi extender and the host router are fully booted up. Examine the power sockets that you have used to supply electricity to the Linksys wireless extender and router. Also, check the power cables. If any of these is damaged then get it replaced right away.
4. Power Cycle the Devices
In case you still can’t get the two devices connected, then power cycle them now. Power off the Linksys WiFi range extender and the main router right away. You also need to take their power cables out from the respective wall outlets. Plug them in again after waiting for 5 to 10 minutes. As soon as the devices are booted up, try to connect them and see if the extender connects to the router or not.
5. Reset the Linksys Range Extender
Resetting the WiFi extender will restore the default factory settings on it by erasing the current customized settings. Some wrong configurations on the extender may be stopping the connection between the extender and router. Resetting will be helpful in such a scenario. So, reset your WiFi extender now using the Reset button on it. Once it is reset, it has the factory settings running on it.

Power off the host router as well as Linksys wireless range extender. You should now make a LAN connection between the Linksys wireless range extender and the host router. You can also let them connect wirelessly. Now, turn on the devices. As soon as the extender is turned on, connect your computer to its network. Either make a LAN connection or connect to extender’s WiFi. Use extender.linksys.com or IP 192.168.1.1 to go to the setup page of the extender. Follow the instructions and complete the setup.
