Troubleshooting MS Word not working error
Restart the computer
If the Word is not working, you should check for the runtime issues. On PC, the user can get runtime errors anytime and many programs stop working. But these issues can be repaired by restarting the computer. Close the Word and other apps on the PC. Now restart the PC and reopen your Word. Create a document and check Word errors.
Update your MS Office
The programs of the Office suite may start showing issues when the setup is outdated. MS Office provides regular updates for the tools. The user should install the new update immediately to find new services and new fix patches. Whenever Word stops working, check for the new update immediately. Go to the Office and tap on the Update button. If a new update is available, it will install on the device. After updating the Office package, restart the PC and now try to use Word.
Repair your Office package

- Go to Programs and check for Microsoft Office
- Choose Office and tap on Change option
- Tap on Quick Repair and select the Continue button

Disable the Add-ins in Safe mode
Many times, Word starts showing errors due to the add-ins. The best technique to find the error is to open the Word in Safe Mode.
- Open the run and type winword.exe/a
- Press the Enter
- MS Word will open on the safe mode
- Word will open without any plugin
If your MS Word is opening that means the plugins are not working. But when you are unable to open Word on Safe mode; an error is occurring due to other reasons. When the add-ins are causing errors then remove them.
- Choose File tab
- Click on Options
- Tap on Add-ins
Now select Manage and then choose COM add-ins. Now uncheck the add-ins which are causing the error and then hit the OK button. After removing the add-ins, restart the Word and check for errors.
Scan the device for malware
Your MS Word can also get into error when the device has malware. Remove the junk from the computer

Reinstall MS Word on the device
When the whole setup gets corrupted then you should reinstall it. Go to Word setup and tap on uninstall. Also, remove all the Word related files from the device. Now get the new Word setup and install it on the device.
